Which Tests are Best: An Update on Laboratory Testing for Bacterial STDs

A series of lectures presented by The NNPTC Eastern Quadrant: Sylvie Ratelle PTC of New England, Region II PTC NYC, Region III PTC, Center for Health and Behavioral Training and the NYS PTC.  This training will provide additional knowledge about the various bacterial tests available for use in the United States and the pros and cons of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, vaginitis, and trichomonas testing will be addressed.

MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs who specialize in emergency medicine, infectious diseases, internal medicine, family practice, OB/GYNs, and other clinicians who provide services for STD or HIV-infected patients.

  1. Identify the tests available for diagnosing STIs; and
  2. >Define the following terms:
    • Sensitivity
    • Specificity
    • Positive predictive value
    • Negative predictive value
