Dr. Larry William Chang, Larry William Chang, is an Instructor of Infectious Diseases at JHU. Dr. Chang completed his undergraduate, public health, and medical degrees at Emory University. He then trained in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and completed his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at JHU. He has worked for over 10 years on issues related to HIV/AIDS in low-resource settings through projects with academic institutions and in collaboration with the CDC and WHO.
Dr. Chang's main research activities focus on innovative and pragmatic strategies for improving the HIV/AIDS care in low-resource settings. These strategies include using community-based peer health workers to help address the human resource crisis, mobile technologies to help bridge care and communication gaps (mhealth), and developing online and electronic training and evaluation tools (ehealth). Dr. Chang is also involved in conducting systematic reviews and developing and updating World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines related to HIV/AIDS care and prevention. Additionally, Dr. Chang is currently involved with assessing Makerere University's community-based health education program in Uganda as part of a collaborative Gates Foundation-sponsored initiative between JHU and Makerere University.
